An Interview with Last Sigh: So who are you guys? You are from Italy, and you put out Triple Assassinate by the name, The Hypersexual Nymphomaniacs. That's a pretty wild name. Where did you come up with that one and what if anything prompted you to create the music on Triple Assassinate? How would you describe the sounds on this CD to someone who had never heard it? Well, we played together
from 1992. Alessandro Scarpellini is now 32 and he is the man behind the
computers. I [Marco Gaetani] am 38 and I am the band behind the
instruments. The name was taken out of a song from The Meat Shits, a
grind-core band from California. They were nothing special, but they made me laugh with
their lyrics about pornography. We don't care about pornography anyway. There are better
things in life. Last Sigh: Where exactly are you
located in Italy and what's the "scene" like there, providing there is one? Are
there any good clubs or concerts there? Last Sigh: How long have you been into creating music in your lives? Were either of you involved in any formal training in music? Our project is Alessandro's first attempt to immortal glory. I started to play when I was 15, in 1976, mixing tapes and radio interferences. Then I played drums in some punk and hard-core punk bands and I switched to synth in 1981. Then I stopped to play in 1984 because I was without money and I sold my synth. In 1992 I found a job and I started again. I listen to a lot of different music, but I love beat, garage rock and psychedelic, and music from India. I am a recorrd collector. I tried to study music some years ago but without much success. Alessandro also studied music. He played the trombone. Last Sigh: Just out of curiousity, what do you do for work over there? Do you two have any degrees or? I was an awful student. I like to read a lot. I am a human encyclopedia about silent films and I love to read about dadaism and surrealism. Alessandro was really better then myself. He has a degree. Anyway, I work at the pharmacy of our city hospital. Great job between bandages and catheters. About Alessandro's work... he works at the hospital too, but things are in motion for him. He wants something better. Last Sigh: Are you going to produce yet another CD under The Hypersexual Nymphomaniacs? Are you looking to be released on a label in the future? Are you going to be getting a web site in the near future? Sure. We are working on another CD. We have a lot of new ideas. About a label, we searched a lot for one, but now we don't care much. We play for fun. The idea of a site is nice. Sometimes we think about it. Anyway, I'm thinking on a site with portraits of silent actors and actresses. Last Sigh: What type of gear are you using to create the music on Triple Assassinate? An old synth, a sampler and a lot of ideas. Electronic music is boring when there are not ideas. Anyway we made our stuff in a professional studio. Last Sigh: How do you feel about people
encoding music from CD to MP3 and distributing that over the WWW? Last Sigh: Have you or are you ever doing live performances? If so, where? No. We have not enough money to do our performance. We [thought] of a light show with naked dancers, videos and a lot of other things. Someone invited us to play live, but they were too far for us. One in Kiev, another in Australia.... Last Sigh: Thanks so much for taking the time to send the CD to us, and to do this interview! Thank you to Last Sigh, and to the readers. |
