Salamander Guru Mike: How long have you been together as Loop Guru? Were there any earlier projects you or anyone else were involved in? Salamander: 10 years. We were originally part of the craving company - a multimedia extravaganza which included live wallpapering and someone escaping from a locked wardrobe. We place a dozen tape recorders spuriously around the hall with various sound effects on each and then played music over the top. Yes of course we were involved in other projects........ Mike: As far as the mainstream goes, did you ever vision Loop Guru being as big as they are now, especially with videos being played on MTV? SG: No but we always wanted to be as big as a pink balloon - or bigger in fact. Mike: When you went out on the road with Meat Beat Manifesto in 1996, how did the crowd react to your performance? I know a majority of people who said that was the first time they have ever heard of you. SG: Ever seen a Goth jumping up and down, smiling. We saw lots. Mike: Why did you choose to release Catalogue Of Desires Vol. 3 only as a mail-order release? Is there even a Volume 1 & 2? SG: Catalogue of desires is available in shops in Europe. In America we decided to explore other avenues. Volumes 1 & 2 were available as limited edition cassette only releases - so far! Mike: In regards to you new release, "Loop Bites Dog," what were some of the changes you wanted to make on this album? I hear that Loop Guru only consist of 2 to 3 people in the studio, and one of them doesn't play live with you. SG: Everything has several hundred possibilities - "Loop Bites Dog" is no different. The nucleus is a trio of two who do most of the composing and producing. Muud doesn't play live because he believes that a composer doesn't necessarily have to be a performer. He prefers taping frogs in far flung places. Mike: Does the band tend to tour for the release of "Loop Bites Dog?" The Americans are very worried that the Loops won't come back to the states since the Big Top tour didn't go so well over here. SG: We will be in America for the whole of November. Keep your eyes open or keep in touch with Josh at World Domination. Mike: What's in store for Loop Guru in say, the next year? SG: The future is green with a few pink spots. Thank you Sam for the interview. Good luck with the new album, and with your music career!
