Digital Hardcore Showcase

CBGB's New York City, New York
11 November 1998

Ec8or

I got there late, and I missed one of my favorite bands, Ec8or. I met Patric and Gina
later, so that kinda made up for it. They are insanely cool. CBs is a sweet club.
Not your typical stage/floor set up.

Bomb 20

It was a miracle I wasn't deaf after this show. Bomb 20 mixed up dats, played almost
every song on Field Manual, and a few extras, and had some of the greatest
visuals I'd ever seen going for about a 45min set. It was alot like listening to the
album REALLY loud, there wasn't alot of stage energy but it WAS live... so I was good.   Plus, you can play me Bomb 20 in a dentists office or an elevator and I'd
be happy.

Alec Empire

I had seen Atari Teenage Riot a year before this, and Alec was up and down and
all over. Screaming and shouting and running and you name it... he was going wild.
He didn't move much behind his turntables this time. But Hanin was with him
singing and dancing along. She is a goddess. Anyway, he went through some
of The Destroyer, some ATR, and a Curse of the Golden Vampire if I'm not mistaken.
Suicide, Firebombing, Hard like it's a Pose, My Face would Crack, Destroyer 2000
Years of Culture, Not Your Business, and Substance X were all part of his set.
For the few amount of people at this show, they crowd was insane for Alec. I got
swept up and trashed from one wall to the other on plenty of occasions. Especially
when Destroyer  2000 Years of Culture blew up.

Merzbow  vs  Alec Empire

For an hour with Alec spinning some of his more ambient stuff from back in the
day along with a beat on occasion. Some small Japanese woman screamed a
little too. I think my ears were projectile bleeding and I was constantly erect. I'd never
heard such audio pain before, and it made me happy. Most of the crowd high tailed
during Mezbow's slaughtering.

Christophe De Babalon

I am a huge fan of Christophe. He was being more of a house DJ then anything though. I left just before his set was over after I left Patric and Gina. It was definitely Christophe's style jungle... but he wasn't doing it like he did on the album. I wasn't unhappy... but I was expecting a little more.

I think it took 2 weeks for my hearing to restore fully and my perma-grin to fade.
