The New World Cafe, Coral Springs FL

"Download! At New World???" This was the cry of many fans of the techno/experimental genre. I for one had no idea why the band would ever come to Coral Springs, who else besides Paula Poundstone has come here that is known??? Well, it did happen, and Download definitely marked their territory as they played a scorching set that totally blew their fans away. As Download (Cevin Key, Mark Spybey, Philth) took the stage, with help from the one-man opening act Twilight Circus, they set the mood for the sold-out crowd present at the venue. As they blasted into Suni C, the whole cafe was blasted with the sounds of an electronic barrage, and the visuals of an extraordinary show. Some songs that were included in the 2 hour plus set were Cannaya, Sidewinder, Glassblower, Basemetal, Omniman, Sigesang, Possession, The Turin Cloud, and many more off of their albums. They even threw in a couple of Skinny Puppy tunes in there to keep the vibe alive (Mirror Saw-dub, Download, Dig It, Inquisition). I even think they played a Doubting Thomas track somewhere in the mix, but I am not sure. After all the music was done, and the performance had concluded, the band was kind enough to sign autographs in the back of the cafe to all of their fans. I must say that the members of the band are some of the nicest musicians that I have talked to. If you missed them on their last tour, I hope they will be in on another tour sometime in 1997.
