An Evening With

The Edge, Palo Alto California
November 03, 1997
Reviewed by Mark Dunn
The night started out crappy because I had to take a detour -- finally got to the Edge
around 8:15PM.. not many people were there. As I walked in, I heard them
playing Testure (oh yeah, baby), followed by some NIN song. Eek.
At about 9:10 or so the first band
started playing. "Jack Off Jill", they call themselves. I must say that they
seem to only want to shock people. An all-chick band with a manly-looking guitartist, and
a lead singer that screamed too much.
Talk about man-haters. "How
can you fuck a woman when you've never FUCKED A MAN?" Silly. People weren't really
getting into this band, mainly just standing about, with a few obvious fans cheering and
whatnot. Disillusioned sheep, I assume.
About an hour after Jack Off Jill
started, they finished. It took Lords of Acid quite a while to get ready, but once they
were ready, whoa.. it was worth it. It
started with a member of the entourage recalling a poem from memory that ended with "
.. and with your underwear quite placid, I now give you the LORDS OF ACID." The
audience erupted in cheers, and they bounded out onto the stage. Unfortunately, I can not
remember what song they started with, but the playlist was 18 songs, and here are the ones
that I can name straight from memory:
Crab Louse
Spank My Booty
Deep Sexy Space
She and Mr. Jones
Take Control
Voodoo U
Pussy
LSD
I Sit on Acid
Do What You Wanna Do
Rough Sex
The Most Wonderful Girl
The Power is Mine
You Belong to Me
Rubber Doll
The stage was covered in pink and
yellow furry things, and the leader singer started the show dressed in a tight
leopard-print dress.. on the screens behind the band, they showed various album covers,
BDSM scenes, pictures of cats (during Pussy), etc. There were two instrumentals, which the
lead singer used to change her outfit.. from a leopard-print dress to a red and black
leather shorts/bra and finally to a silver Daisy Duke shorts/shirt onepiece thingy..
The music was great, all high
energy, danceable stuff, with one moderately slow song.. as with the KMFDM show, but even
moreso here, there were idiots on the
dancefloor not dancing. And when you tried to dance, they would give you the evil eye.
Very upsetting. You could tell that the band was somewhat frustrated. As usual, my friends
and I went nuts in the front-middle, trying to get people to dance, but our attempts were
futile. Sadly.
Spank My Booty and Rough Sex were
an encore performance. The encore was quite amusing, actually. They came back out onstage,
and she started to berate the audience:
"All you women come here with your hip-hugging little dresses on, but I'll bet none
of you whores are enough of a woman to get SPANKED."
She continued that until she
finally DID get a volunteer from the audience, a girl by the name of Natasha. As she (the
lead singer) reached for the paddle to spank Natasha with, someone from the audience
screamed for her to ".. use this!" It was a Cat o' Nine Tails. She couldn't
decide which one to use, so she asked the audience to decide for her.. the Cat o' Nine
Tails won. (I was screaming that she use both.) Then, to the tune of Spank My Booty, she
whipped the girl with the Nine Tails.. not very hard, obviously careful of the girl's
bottom. After they played Rough Sex, the show ended.. it was worth the $11.00 I payed for
it.
