This first North American release of Aghast View by Gashed
Records, Carcinopest, is coined as an [aural] orgy between "FLA, Swamp
Terrorists, Haujobb, Leaetherstrip, and :W: [Wumpscut]"
-- Aghast View envelops the true sense of Electronic Body Music and is not to be
taken lightly by the fanbase of other artists in this genre. Out of Brazil, Aghast
View brings to us a hard "biting your ass" electro-fusion of balanced beats,
selective and beautifully timed percussion, good sequencing and loops, treated vocals that
would raise the hair on your neck, and lyrics that are provocative relative to todays
social issues.
I
have heard a few people mention however, and contemptuously so, that Aghast View is
just "too similar to FLA" to be original with their music.
There are a few tracks on the CD that you can hear the influence of FLA sure, but I
really don't care, since most of the EBM and electro-industrial is rehashed-regurgitated
80s sound anyway.
At least Aghast View does have an original sound, even if
they do have influences from the 80s -- most any other band does the same thing
nowadays. I won't get into a heated discussion with myself here about this issue --
I will say, you either like them or you don't, regardless of their influences, (which
should make them more appealing actually), ...and I like them. I don't find them
boring at all, as I have found on some other releases by bands in this genre.
Besides, the vocals and lyrics are better than some FLA, (sorry Bill......). :)
So if you enjoy FLA, I think you will like
Aghast View.
