Imagine pressing a conch the size and depth of a seemingly bottomless cave to the ear. This is the aural impression of Amon's music. In the two soundscapes on Aura one can hear the turning and churning of the earth's bowels; thick, rumbling waves of soughing, gusty sounds that crash in slow-motion like so many tides of lava. The denseness and magnitude of the sound is of mythical proportions, and inside this subdued raging can be heard the distant, ringing sighs of dead melodies and harmonies, travelling like faraway signals, or ghosts, of a music that once was, but now is engulfed by the great frightening presence of Amon's compositions.
If any musical project was ever worthy of the predicate dark ambient, Andrea Marutti's Amon would be it. After two CD releases on the labels Murder Release and Eibon Records, Amon has contributed to Drone Records' catalogue of great 7" records with Aura. As usual the first pressing is limited to 250 numbered copies, presented in a handmade cover, and -- in stark contrast to the dark quality of the music -- the single has been pressed on transparent clear vinyl.
