With a name like Dedicated to Jeffrey Dahmer, you won't find flowery polka-dot rhythms and fluffy pink soundscapes. In this respect the title does the music some justice, even before you release the cassette from it's plastic jail cell and get your tape deck rolling. Hailing from Germany, Azoikum is harsh, aggressive noise that's enough to send your dog running for cover under the bed.

This isn't music so much as it is a collection of gritty textures. Some of it sounds like sandpaper grating over a microphone with anorexic gerbils in the background running on a squeaky wheel. Other tracks resemble a monsoon battering a tin roof, with a TV blaring relentless white noise static and a chorus of rusty kettles whistling in the distance.

Unfortunately Azoikum called it quits in July of '98, and have destroyed everything that had to do with the band since then, including master tapes and artwork. "I became sick of all that violence-worshipping shit inside the scene and I didn't want to be forced into that corner" reasons the man behind Azoikum, Stefan Widmann. "Besides, I find it immoral to use topics like these now." In light of this decision he has founded a new label, Verbrannte Erde Productions, which has given rise to fresh personal projects where he has been able to shed the aggression of past releases like this.
