Finally, the remix disc from the
astounding A New High in Low has been released. High in Low was a much more
mature than any previous Pigface release, so it stands to reason that Below the Belt
would be too.
The regular host of Invisble Records remixers appear on Below the Belt, once again
churning out excellent mixes. Curse Mackey and Lee Fraser update the tracks that they
participated on originally on A New High in Low ("Radio Bagpipe" and
"Methylated", respectively), while Subgenius, JF Coleman, and Bagman remix where
they see fit. Pleasant suprises are donated by Hanzel und Gretyl, Justin Broadrick (of
Godflesh, Techno Animal, etc.), and Van Christie. The five remaining mixes were done by
artists who I don't know, but none fare below par.
This disc has it's fair share of quality material (remixes by HuG and Phylr spring to
mind), but a lack of stucture and continuuity prevents much repeated listening; I almost
always get distracted about halfway through. Perhaps remix albums aren't expected to flow
the way a true album should, but I know this does occasionally happen (pick up Collide's
Distort for proof). Those who enjoyed the latest effort from the revolving possee known as
Pigface (of which there are many) should pick this one up.
