"You pass by my window, yet I will never have you...." begins the CD with Julianna singing in regards to a marriage that may never happen(?)...solemn but not too sad in sound or lyrics, but rather an awareness of her reality, this track is very beautiful. Electronics, guitar, horns and keys accent this romantic work. Taken from earlier work off the As one aflame laid bare by desire (Projekt 86), this track is exquisite in both content and quality. Lyrics from Jerrald Seigel's "The Private World of Marcel Duchamp" (University Press 1995 p 41) bring forth a more harmonic background of flowing piano, flute and a warm moving tempo in Dulcinea. Calm and mellow, beautifully uplifting, yet sadness is also captured with Julianna on lead vocals, Lisa on backup, and Sam with his wonderfully sensuous voice -- what a great combination! On broken shells of crystal dreams reminds me of an ocean wave in slow motion pulsing with the lyrical disbelief of "This cruel god who averts his gaze? How can I believe in a god who creates puppets and sheep?" -- (1998 studio recordings from the live set). The final track on the release is excellent with renaissance guitar and flute which heavily accent the title: "Could I stay the honest one?" and lyrics as Julianna sings about "...harboring these feelings....your tears the ultimate beauty...lose this fear...reveal my heart to you...". In the fine tradition of Projekt Records excellent work, this maxi CD is yet another quality addition to Black Tape For A Blue Girl's releases -- sweet, intensely rich, emotionally stable and fulfilling. |
