Broca's Area engages in high energy noise and electronic wizardry in the opening of Firmie, a clanky, and fuzzy guitar background melody, heavily laden with bass drumming, toms that slowly drifts off into silence. More clanking and samples of noise and keyboards bring out the definitive sounds and a Puppy-like beat in Vice, leading into Predatory Instinct, a rolling electro barrage of synths and sequences that cresendo's to sounds which immitate a small nuclear explosion yet quieter and softer than the real thing of course, yet the piece drums up that vision in my head....
She'll Come Around changes direction to a more subtle upbeat drum-laden synth driven track with treated vocal samples of what sounds like someone screaming far off in the distance and is peppered with electronic bleeps and more tasty guitar. Not A Word swerves in to yet another direction with a melodic ambient work that is simply beautiful -- expansive, slow, dramatic yet powerfully engaging my mind's eye to drift back to pristine ancient forests, or perphaps the fond memories of a distant loved one.
This side ends with 1.2.3.4, a sampled electro-quirk of sonic injections of different voices counting up to 4 over and over again....

Side B is again more noise injections (near to sirens but not as piercing) and steady drumming having good sequences of warped and twisted synth as in the opening track: On A Wire, however Shadowall defies the earlier tracks with a mello reverberating of keyboards. First Act brings: A Blunt Instrument and is a delicious blend of drumming, ticks, and melodics with more miscellaneous synthetic treatments adding to the effects giving an ominous air about the piece. Pursuit picks up speed with sampled vocals, a spaciously ambient background of melody, quick tasty drum loops that remind me of some FSOL or ORB, very good...
A Scene At Night is darker by title but also by sound, slower powerful deep bass drum (F242 style), hauntingly steady with more machine like clanks and warped sampled effects, layered with threatening drones or flowing harmonic chorals of different pitch in the background, and fades off into nothingness. Excellent track. Second Act, yet another wonderfully sensuous snippet of keyboard, is followed up with Gone Under, a dark work yet with snappy march-like drumming sequenced and overlayed by what sounds like the bleeps as in the ones in "Tainted Love", and continues on with more clanking and scary effects and reverberations.
This tape is an interesting yet provocative piece of work not to be taken lightly. Email Broca's Area for Random Acts of Violence! It's worth every penny....and more.
