Broca's Area Track Listing John Sosnowski: Keyboard, Samples,
Sequences. Syncopath and Antigone are a wonderful electro-blend of wavey synths, superb drumming, layering of quirky strange sounds from the keyboard, and tight sequencing. The rolling progression here would get even the laziest of club goers on the dance floor with its IDM-ish qualities. I have really come to enjoy the synthetic drumming of John's talent, as oftentimes it is somewhat tribal in nature -- a full sound to it, not empty or shallow. This rather lengthy work (two tracks of 45+), takes a shift in direction about midway or so into it with single slower bass drum sequencing and panoramic waves of soundscapes so often heard in Broca's work -- then leading into a faster paced drumming that continues in balance with the soundscapes but with added electronic sampling woven within. Great selection for DJ's as it's dance worthy, or getting oneself up in the morning -- a bit slow in the beginning, more power, speed and energy towards the middle, and a long section with that jazzy more tinty march-like drumming that slowed down from the previous near techno raceway beats, a crash of noise, a deep low droning layer giving the piece fullness in resonance, and the space age sound of keyboards going at it with bits of guitarish sounds buzzing in the background. That section is followed up with the more ambient beginning with jazzy tinty sequencing and gentle piano-keyboarding layered with a strong winding whirling synth sample, bringing the composition full circle and fades gently into memory. A very busy piece of electo-sonic sculpture -- one you won't get bored with ever. Excellent..!!! |
