Well this is certainly a nice change for me to hear! FUNKY BROTHA kick it DOWN! This is the first "sampler" from the Hydrogen Imprint where most of the artists presented here are new to the CD format, and many of the tracks taken from Vinyl LPs.  This CD is full of funkadelic eletronic jazzy, works of pure fundamental drum bass, synth and spiraling/rolling electronic Fx. Chamber has a pretty interesting track here with quick paced percussion rolling into the imagery of electrons dancing in free space through the speakers! nice nice...smoooooth and sassy!  Every now and the some man steps in with a vocal sample: "Electric Boostah" and moves into a touch of techno-edge wave. The CD also holds The Creatures with "Thank You" Dub Pistols Mix, drum and bass, freaky synth effects, tribal blends of eastern influenced timbre and percussion that moves with the grooves....(ahhh.. those little ridges on vinyl oh yeah....). The Experiment's, "This Is What The Funk Is For" is on their upcoming album debut this spring 1999, really a good track, sounds just a bit like some samples off a Prodigy track a ways back...not without vocals, the beat is fast and delicious in which to dance. Slab's, "Funked Up Kid" off their second LP coming in summer, begins with a guitar synth loop, with a heavy boost of drum and bass, very upbeat in tempo and makes me feel like I should be in some Latin-esque country dancing with exotic drinks at my table!   "Are there any girls here?" begins "On The Pull" by Omnivore a very sassy piece of work here, totally drum/bass/funky shake your BOOTAY to this one!
TLM moves with even more deep drum and bass, hydraulic plunges, tinkerings with shuffles and a touch of female vocals with "Electrastar." Girl Eats Boy (what a name...), "Nalpalm In Bohemia", mmmmMmmmm more delicious drum and bass. Now don't get me wrong, this isn't the "drum and bass" I am used to hearing, but more on the funky side of things...I am not even sure who else makes this stuff, but it certainly is fun to listen to and great dance music as well...it's "happy" music for a change, nice. The last track, A1 People's "Eager Beaver" "Yo Yo YO you get the FUCK ovah here Mothah Fucking DANCE with you BITCH!" Oh yeah! dance sistah! another great break beat dance tune, more drum bass synth and this crazy woman talking about her "body language". Woooo! Smoooth stuff on this release!
