Breakbeats and drum 'n' bass have become very common and increasingly popular forms of  percussion within electronic music. With that said it's nice to know that some people are still willing to forge ahead with a unique approach, instead of getting sucked in by the complacency that musical popularity tends to entail. Mick Harris, best known for his work as the head of Scorn and a member of Painkiller, has shifted from the music of his recent collaborations into a disk of energetic percussion. This is the first time Birmingham DJ and PCM founder Neil Harvey has appeared under his name, and matched up with Harris they crank out a bass ridden collection of rhythmic instrumentals.

The tracks are all set to a backdrop of distant, droning soundscapes with an ambient tinge. This is a slight platform for the rhythm, which sharply contrasts the melodic backdrop that adds more substance and character to the otherwise predictable course of the electronic
drums. After Harris' sticky fallout with Invisible Records a while back there is the possibility that a lot more of his releases will be channeled through Sub Rosa. His music doesn't reflect the side of his personality that publicly voiced his profanity-laced disgust with Invisible, and that's definitely a good thing.
