Although Anything Box's writer and self described 'noisician', Claude S., refers to this disk as the "destroyer of all genres", the majority of the tracks definately reside in a beatlesque vein of skillfully crafted pop songs. The opening track's chorus, "everything is automatic", is a reminder of how this disk is entirely electronic, which is easy to forget since the songs have a very natural, acoustic quality to them. This is most likely due to the mellow, emotionally charged vocals that bring out a lot of personality in the lyrics. Anything Box reminds me of Depeche Mode in a lot of respects, whose influence is definately audible.
