          Tear Ceremony is the haunting electronic ambient project of Todd Gautreau. In the past he has released a number of cassettes and three CDs. His latest, "Film Decay", was self-released through his own Simulacra record label. Sparse, tight knit collages of textured atmospherics gradually wind and unravel throughout each song. The imposing intensity is composed of a variety of subtle tones that expand and contract with the organic elasticity of a lung. The reference to film goes beyond just the title. Not only does the music actually play like a soundtrack, but Gautreau says he was trying to use sound the way a filmmaker would use images. The result is music that has incredible strength considering it's simplicity. Optimum listening conditions: played loud on a good pair of headphones in the dark. The only way to really notice the details and hear the music's true colours is with it cranked.
