"Fleisch für Die Kindern" is a thorough introduction to the guttural vocals and pulsating dark melodies of Fleischklump's noisy flesh fixation. Although Scandinavia seems to be best known musically for its output of poppy synth bands, Fleischklump represents a faction of music that couldn't be farther apart from that radio friendly crop of electronics. The core members, Slask Werdenskog and Daniel Grügiel-a, seem intent on upholding an image based on S&M, which is represented to a mild degree in the music.
The introduction to side one, "Wrong Side", is a mechanical mix that gets you in gear for an entirely electronic listen. By the time it leads into the first track, the growling vocals have already taken hold of the music, with an apparent metal influence that complements the sound's aggression. At one point in the song "My Life as a Worm", the vocals escalate into an unbelievable shrieking howl that sends shivers up my spine every time I hear it. The lyrics, much like the song titles, don't leave a lasting impression, but they act more as something to sing rather than something to say. The actual music is a tight fusion of solid drum machine percussion, pounding synth lines that introduce the primary melodies, and a healthy portion of well placed, well chosen samples. The production quality is great, and considering the limited equipment and studio access they had to work with they have composed eight very solid tracks.
I have had this tape for over a year now, and I still get the same enjoyment out of it as if I heard it for the first time yesterday, which is evidence of it's lasting power. I'm looking forward to hearing their new demo, and barring any foreseen procrastination it should be available soon.
