Francisco López

UNTITLED SINGLE PIECE 1  (7")
(first edition: 250 copies)

Track Listing

Side A
Untitled Single Piece 1

Side B
Untitled Single Piece 1

Untitled Single Piece 1 by the Spanish experimental composer Francisco López is presented in a plain white sleeve, with only López' name, and the title of the record printed on it in black. The 7" itself is pressed on white vinyl, and is limited to 250 copies (the number of the record having been written on it in white ink). As such, the question almost is whether the record exists at all, as the two sides of this single feature only the subtlest of continuous pulsating and rumbling signals. The recording is so low that it almost disappears (especially on Side B) in the natural crackle and hiss of the vinyl. The single was released by Drone Records in 1996, while the successive second, third and fourth installments in this series of "Untitled Single Pieces" came out on the American labels Banned Productions, Cohort Records and Povertech Industries, respectively.
Francisco López is nothing if not a versatile and prolific composer. Since the early 80s, he has literally released scores of works, most of them on cassette, but in recent years also on CD and vinyl. Additionally, he has created music for a wide variety of installations, radio-shows and videos.
