The
newest of the Funker Vogt releases is by far the worst to date, but don't
take that the wrong way. It does have a few bright spots to still make it worth the
purchase. The LP version of "Civil War" starts it off. It has a really great,
extended intro with great keyboards and beats. It has a more slowed down feel compared to
the "Killing Fields" version but a still really good track none the less. All of
the tracks start out with an "Execution One". It sounds pretty cool at first but
wears thin quickly. The best two tracks that make it worth the purchase alone are track 3
and track 6. Track 3 is one of the faster songs that Funker Vogt has done
since "Words of Power". Really excellent dance friendly floor slammer. Great to
pound out the aggression! Track 6 is the single released from this CD. It is a bit poppier
and not as aggressive. It would have fit right in with the past Funker Vogt
release; a really solid song. Track 10 "Shaven" is a joke almost, including the
stupidest lyrics about "Shaven cunts fuck much more horny" and the like. Their
English is really bad and the topic is done so poorly it is almost comical, but not enough
to save the song meaning at all. The music for it is nothing special either.
There are three versions of this CD on Zoth Ommog: version A,
version B and the regular release. The first two are both limited but only one is worth
it. The bonus track, "King for a Night" on the Limited Edition A (3,000 copies
in the digipack with the clasp) is the best of the two bonus tracks by far. It sounds VERY
similar to "International Killers" in musical style and vocal delivery so that
would probably explain why I like this one. It is really fast paced and definitely worth
getting. It has a nice slowed down section in the middle of the track that builds back up
and really kicks it back in to high gear. The bonus track, "Black Rain" on the
Limited Fan Edition B (1,000 copies in the digipack with no clasp) is a mid-paced brooding
track with a building baseline. It is interjected with errie keyboards in the changes and
sounds a bit like Seven Tree's style. It is a decent track but not worth
the effort to get except for the die-hard fans.
The lyrics for this release are nothing different from previous
releases though. It would be nice to hear some un-treated vocals instead of ALWAYS hearing
the "growling bear" style of vocals. Sure they do this style well, but for the
third release you would think they would be broadening their horizons a bit. Over all a
good release, but not near as great as "We Came to Kill."
