Drop everything you're doing and go buy this album.
Really, it's that good.
For anyone
who enjoys the power noise movement, and even for those who want to be exposed to this
noisy genre, this is the album for you. Imminent Starvation defines themselves in their
debut album, Human Dislocation, as a strong presence in the noise movement with an album
full of complex layered sounds and good old fashioned NOISE. Yes, at first listen, this
album seems to be nothing but a cacophony of pointless howling, thumping and drum
beats...but the more I listened the more I realized exactly how musically elaborate each
song was. Not only is each song loud and grinding, but they each possess a hard, pounding
dance beat that makes this album almost more electro than powerfully noisy at times.
Songs like "Lost Highway 45" and "Relocation 1" are
sure dance floor favorites; trust me, I hear these songs on the dance floor often, and
each time results in pure unadulterated dance raucousness. For those of you who aren't so
much into aggressive, hardcore beats and loud, layered sounds, this album will still
appeal to you because of its electronic, albeit noisy, feel; "Even Stars..."
posesses the same harsh feel of the more hardcore songs on the album, yet with its slower,
more beat-oriented sound, it is almost reminiscent of Cleen or PAL, minus the lyrics and
sampling. This CD has found its way into my top ten favorites list, if not because of the
noisiness, but because of its elaborate soundscape and variety of sampling, synthwork and
beats. This album is a must-have for any DJ, any fan of power noise or anyone who
appreciates aggressive, pounding music in general.
