Some might
have guessed that the pink hue of the aging Dots would have faded over the past eighteen
years, but "Nemesis Online" proves these people very wrong. The music is fronted
by the spirited vocals of Edward Ka-Spel, whose charming English accent and mild
temperament add to the calm atmosphere of the disk. "And if I was the only boy in the
world, and you were the only girl / We'd fight like hell". Ka-Spel's lyrics are very
poetic in an interpretive style, and they fit the music to perfection. There is an obvious
humour embedded in his words, and it helps bring a dose of personality to the songs.
The music itself is very eclectic, and there is a lot of
diverse instrumentation that prevents any chance of backing it into any one genre.
Currently with six members there is more than enough creative input to keep things fresh,
and since there have been over thirty people involved with this band in the past it seems
like an important goal. The songs are well layered and the majority of them are relatively
slow moving, almost with a hypnotic quality.
This disk, drug-induced cover art and all, proves that
"Legendary" still belongs in their name, and it doesn't hint at any signs of the
legend coming to an end any time soon. |
