Lucid is
contemporary styled world music at its finest. Combining American Folk, Blues and Jazz
sprinkled with European and Eastern flavours Todd, Marc and Ellicia
create a soft and mellow ambient expression of originality and serenity.
Todd Milne gives a superb performance with his guitar
genius, "I Hope You Have Sweet Dreams", "Lucidity", with a myriad of
clear and crisp intricate acoustic riffs and rhythms throughout the CD. In addition,
Ellicia and Marc exhibit their expertise in percussion using drums,
shakers, rolling textures, middle eastern beats and drifts "Seed", chimes,
bells, and what sounds like water bowls and various other indigenous instruments to their
world music sound repertoire.
A gentle softness and seriousness is heard in Todd's
guitar in "Open Heart" and is blended with spicy rolling drumming while
"Considering Our Relations" a very modern piece of quiet drifting lounge music.
The music takes a slight change in direction with "Otherworld" with Todd
doing variations of improv-guitar riffs and his rhythm guitar sampled and looped in the
background, layered with guitar synth. Very tasty!
"The Shape of Open Space" and "New Life"
brings a beautiful touch of swirling ambient electronics and guitar to the release.
The most eclectic track on the disk is "Blues for the Burning Earth", which
combines slow jazz riffs on guitar, whirling synth and exotic percussion to produce a very
original and enticing work. "A Web of Karma" continues with a slight
change -- a faster tempo and beat than the rest of the CD which sounds rather Frippesque
overall.
