Although he probably doesn't know it, William Burroughs opens this disk with a manipulated sample that proves to be a perfect introduction, "ladies and gentlemen there is no cause for alarm". From here Nothing Inside take over, with the electronic stew of heavily distorted vocals, voice samples, synthetic melodies and electronic percussion that make up the first track on the disk, "Shatter". This is one of the more upbeat songs on "Host", and by the time track two comes around the sound has changed completely. "What Happens Now" is a minimal, down tempo, melodic track that is more in the style of the rest of the disk. The vocals are a little more clear, although they are still processed with some reverb and enough distortion to add the texture that singer Rome Clegg usually masks his voice with. Compared to past releases, "Host" lets a little more gothic overtones dominate the music. It works well for the band, and they haven't become overbearingly melancholy in the process.
