ADDICTION
Track Listing
1. Addiction (first dose)
2. Addiction (second dose)
3. Deep Down Trauma Hounds (Remix)
The main attraction of the Addiction
single is Steven Gilmore's haunting cover art: A large and a small apparitonal
face traced with bleeding white lines against a dark background. Naturally, this is not
strictly true; the two tracks -- "Addiction" and "deep down Trauma
Hounds" -- that have been remixed for the single are excellent Skinny Puppy
songs. However, as is the case with mixes of Skinny Puppy's music in
general, the songs are not enhanced or improved upon in their alternate forms.
All three remixes have been
produced, engineered and mixed by the presitgeous Adrian Sherwood. Ogre's
voice has been lifted to the surface in the mixes of "Addiction," and the beat
has been amplified to enhance the dance appeal of the song. The same is true for
"deep down Trauma Hounds," on which the media smaples too have been given
greater prominence, and a few extra ones added.
The sound of the original
versions of these songs is decidedly more chaotic, less danceable and harder to access.
However, both songs feel more genuine and sincere in their originals, and they simply are
better experienced within the unifying framework of Cleanse Fold And Manipulate,
for which they were originally composed.
