Skinny Puppy
TIN OMEN
Track Listing
1. Tin Omen
2. Tin Omen (Reload)
3. Amputate
4. Spahn Dirge
Aside from the reasonably
nice cover art, this Skinny Puppy single offers very little new to those
in possession of the album Rabies. The first version of "Tin Omen," along
with "Amputate" and "Spahn Dirge," are the exact same versions as on
the album (see the review of Rabies for further details on these songs).
The "Reload" mix
of "Tin Omen," on the other hand, is, an interesting track. Edited by Marc
Ramaer, David Ogilvie and cEvin Key, this edition of the song has
more of Skinny Puppy's feel than the original. Rather than the heavy
guitar riffs of the album version, the "Reload" mix opens with throbbing synths
and Key's signature percussions. The guitars and vocals are introduced later in
the song, and are identical to those on the album version. However, segments emphasizing
the synths and percussions have been inserted throughout the song, extending it,
making it more dance friendly, and adding Goettel's and Key's
unmistakeable fingerprints on the song, which to begin with was rather dominated by Al
Jourgensen's influence.
