Sitting on a waterfront porch in the dark, wind chimes dangling in the breeze. Thick drones permeate through the darkness like a chorus of fog horns in the distance. This is the vivid scene drawn from Aperiodic's eight-and-a-half minute opening track, "Bell".
These lengthy songs all contain a rich ambience, performed with an experimental array of sounds that stop just short of a clamour.
When you hear a guitar, usually you will visualize someone playing it. But when strange sounds come out of your stereo that sound like an army of tin ants buzzing up a steel pole, you have to be creative in order to visualize what you're hearing. "Aperiodic" taps into this creativity; like a collection of soundtracks to imaginary landscapes.
Robert Clutter is a member of Oregon's North Coast Noise Committee, which is a groups of artists who work together to promote experimental/improv music. Hopefully this Committee will find strength in numbers, and draw some attention to its members' interesting soundscapes.
