Scala can simply be defined as pop music, with easy to swallow electronics and passive, catchy hooks. The songs alternate between basic vocal tracks, fronted by Sarah Peacock, and brief instrumental interludes handled by the second half of Scala, Daren Seymour.
Peacock's vocals are the only consistently dynamic element to these songs, which are sung over a very repetitive style of instrumentation. She sings with a childlike innocence and her lyrics are deeply rooted in topics of love and desire.
Both the music and production are smooth and mellow, without a hard edge in sight. I can't help but compare this project to Bjork in some ways, mainly with the vocals, but this music is far more calm and subdued.
The only way the talent of this duo's sophomore release will be lost on you is if it manages to lull you to sleep, which there's certainly a good chance of.
