An insidious bootleg release of one of Skin Graft Records' first releases
has appeared. The record in question is the Strangulated Beatoffs double
single set from 1992, and the culprit is once more the SiN RAFT label, which shocked the
underground last summer with a live bootleg 7" of Lake Of Dracula.
300 copies are known to exist of this counterfeit edition, and it comes in a Michael
Hutchence tribute cover.
The four tracks on the set are
vintage Beatoffs material; powerful looped percussions, grotesquely
garbled and treated vocals and samples, all shrouded in a thick haze of distorted guitar
riffs. Each song more or less sticks to its original design throughout, and as such these Beatoffs
tunes have quite considerable dance appeal, especially for those on the dance floor too
far gone on substances to elaborate, once they have found the basic beat in a
given song.
Most intriguing is perhaps
"It's A Vile Vile Vile Vile World," which, with its incessant repetition of the
sample: "I wanna jack off," must be considered the Strangulated Beatoffs
anthem. Naturally, this song, along with most of the Beatoffs'
production, has the potentiality of being rather offensive to music connoisseurs and
finer sentiments everywhere. However, for those in need of a drunken party soundtrack, or
some good old dirty fun, Strangulated Beatoffs is it.
