Initially released in 1994 in a limited edition of 200 copies with handpainted covers, Drone Records has recently made a second edition of this beautiful pure ambient 7" available. It is pressed on blue vinyl, without any indication of which side is A or B; and this time comes in a printed sleeve.
Tesendalo is the personal project of Peter Schuster, who is perhaps better known as the owner of Prion Tapes, and for his collaborations on some of Telepherique's releases. The project was first established in 1987, and a number of Tesendalo releases have been made available through such labels as Noise Museum, S E Production, Marginal Talent and of course Prion.
The two pieces presented on this single are based in floating, cosmic sheets of sustained tones that are almost liquid in quality. Coursing sounds as of gusty winds blowing through the compositions appear in certain passages on both tracks, while beams of twinkling electronics, travelling through the droning superstructures of sound, almost are a constant presence. These aural impressions of things vast and infinite are nicely contrasted by the occasional subdued sound of bells, resonating guitar chords, and a few solitary cries from some indefinable animal.
Although similar in sound, structure and mood, the two tracks are not identical; in fact, it almost appears as if one piece begins, where the other leaves off. Both pieces are in a constant state of subtle flux; one is moved forward by an additional harmonic synth presence that seems at the brink of developing into a theme, but never quite does; while the hovering quality of the other piece is punctuated by the plucking of crisp guitar strings. The sound of Entwurf as a whole is very rich, and when played at a generous volume seems to almost become a physical presence in the room.
This single, along with a number of other Drone Records releases, and a rich selection of other labels' products, is available through Drone Records by mail order.
