Various Artists "Promised Land Volume Two" is a collection of work from underground UK jungle and drum+bass artists. The 2 CD set consists of 2 different styles, disc one being all mixed, and disc 2 being unmixed. DJ Fabio is the featured DJ for the mixing of the first CD, and does an excellent job as every tune flows into the next one without you even knowing that it is a new track. DJ Fabio is well known throught the UK club scene as he spins some of the best jungle, jazz, and drum+bass. The MC, Cleveland Watkiss, is featured on the first disc introducing DJ Fabio and also giving shout-outs throughout the disc. Watkiss is a major force in the UK acid jazz scene, and he is currently recording a solo album for the Dorado record label. The first disc opens up with Fokus doing, "Like Dat." DJ Fabio does an amazing job of keeping every track in sync and not mixing in the next record too choppy. You can also hear the vinyl noises in the background, which gives the CD that vinyl feel, instead of the pure crystal compact disc sound. Other excellent tracks on the first disc include Simon Smith's "Midnight (Voyager Remix)", Carlito's "Heaven," and Adam F's "F Jam." The first disc is a masterpiece with Fabio at the console. Disc # 2 is unmixed and does not lead into any other track. Its opener, which is my favorite track on the disc, is DJ Crystl's "Paradise." Every track on the second disc will make you want to get on the dance floor. Other great cuts are Koda's "Crisis," and Double T's "Nightwave." Some of the artists that were on the first disc also make an appearance on the second, but without being mixed together. The Promised Land Compilation is perfect for jungle/drum+bass/trance/and acid jazz lovers. With all the tracks clocking in an upbeat rhythm, the Promised Land will make you tired on the floor, without getting tired of the CD. Excellent quality jungle from Mutant Sound Systems. |
