Yen Pox is the American duo of Michael J.V. Hensley and Steven Hall, and they create some of the most intensely dark and mysterious soundscapes imaginable. The two extended compositions featured on Deliver are best described as voyages into the musical unknown: slow, weaving structures of sound that continuously build and expand, progressing at a cloudy, cancerous pace like so many jets of ink injected into clear water. The pieces do not have structure as such, yet, like cold sweat nightmares they move forward, developing, seemingly aimed at some end that remains elusive.
While "Deliver" has the distinct sinking feel as of a continuous plunge into a bottomless void, "Remove" -- with its intense spinning sound qualities -- appears flung outwards at some unreachable destination beyond the stars. Both pieces have this strong luring sense of propulsion or kinesis, however, these voyages are captured in slow motion; saturated, majestic presences of near solid sound.
Deliver was originally released in 1995 by Drone Records in an edition of 250 copies, but now another 300 copies have been made available in the second edition. The 7" is pressed on black vinyl, and presented in a screaming red cover, with the band's logo and a drawing printed on it in black.
