Though German artists Alphaville has been recording synth pop for more
than 15 years now, "Salvation" is only their fifth release-their first on
Metropolis Records.
Bernard Lloyd's keyboards and programming are instantly addictive, and
Marian Gold's resplendent, romantic vocals make "Salvation" sound like just
that: a musical deliverance.
"Salvation" is a very cohesive album, best listened to as a
unit. The brilliant beats and shimmering synth melodies sustain throughout. However,
certain tracks do stand out. "Wishful Thinking" is a magnificent return to
classic new wave. It is a pulsating, elating, example of pure pop. "Flame" is a
beautiful ballad that is notable as much for its seeming simplicity as for its grand
romantic lyrics.
With "Salvation," Alphaville provides plenty of swirling
synthesized refrains and clockwork beats-the essential elements of skillful synth pop. |
