Recorded live at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City in 1988, "Gotham" is a true Bauhaus collector's item. Members of the band for this show were the four originals:
Daniel Ash, Kevin Haskins, David J and Peter Murphy. The sound of this release is actually quite good. You can hear the crowd cheering inbetween tracks and a few who scream during them. The vocals are quite clear and the music is formidable. There are two tracks on Disk One & Two written by Dead Can Dance: Boys and Severence [studio version] plus a David Bowie track on Disk Two: Ziggy Stardust and also on Disk Two: Marc Bolan, Telegram Sam. All other songs by Bauhaus.
With a career spanning over two decades, Bauhaus has taken on a broad spectrum of sounds not only engaging in the traditional "Gothic" music of yesteryear or today. The sounds and music range from gothic to dark-rock and into film score ["The Hunger" appearance]. This release was recorded on the "Resurrection Tour" and sounds as if it was a great show to have seen. Sadly I missed them, but this release makes up for the loss in part. The demand for Bauhaus to play once again live was extended into North America and europe with over 50 shows actually played -- very successful! I'd recommend anyone who is even remotely interested in the dark gothic rock genre to get a copy of this release.
