As I can't do a general review of a compilation, I have mentioned each
band's song individually and give general ideas and concepts. However, as compilations go,
this one could definitely be a lot worse. Most of the electronic bands on here are rather
interesting, although I truthfully can't say I like every band.
The introductory song, EYE's Logo Identity, is a nice introduction. It
is fast paced techno-industrial, with well written political lyrics. Testube's Condenser
is definitely a song I enjoyed, reminding me of some earlier Controlled Bleeding. Very
good soft ambient style music. Sterile's Control is industrial music with some sung and
spoken lyrics mixed.
Zeitgeist is gothic metal with female vocals that have a little punk
tint to them. Keystone is somewhat experimental techno, with some very random effects that
actually are somewhat amusing, although I don't think that's intentional. in-Fused is
industrial EBM with distorted vocals, somewhat typical but not too bad overall.
Frankie Death and the Photon Belt just rule. I love the way they
introduce the song, with a little kid saying "Presenting Frankie Death and the Photon
Belt!" The beginning of the song is a little slow, with just guitars and hard to hear
vocals. Within 20 seconds it gets really cool though. My only complaint on this song is
that it's too short. Fate Razor seems fairly standard industrial, though
some interesting effects were used.
Dark Violence of Beauty is a band that considers themselves gothabilly,
though i don't find too much evidence of that in this song. Some dark early style goth in
this song, definitely, but not much evidence of country. Not too bad of a song, but it
gets a little repetitive, because most of the vocals are spoken.
Bride of the Atom's sound is slightly hard to describe. Gothic rock
with a pack of howling wolves as background vocals. Some definitely interesting sounds to
this band.
NOVAkIll's sound is slow industrial with dramatic vocals. Initially it
reminded me of Fate Razor, but with a different style of vocals. Not a bad song. Troll's
sound is very catchy, initially. Heavy guitars and female vocals make up most of this
song. Some of the verses get slightly repetitve, however.
Centrifuge's Triangular Seas is very difficult to describe. Soft
percussion, piano, flute, horns, and a couple other instruments mix with dramatic etheral
vocals for an interesting experimental approach to music. My short review does not give
this song credit to its originality.
Dogmachine's fetish opens up with a heavy EBM beat, repeats itself for
a couple seconds, then goes off into fast industrial with female vocals. Could be a
definite good dance song mix at an industrial club.
ON plays beautiful ethereal ambient music, with a slightly faster
techno beat than is typical for ambient. However, should the rest of ON's music be
similar, a worthy purchase to those who enjoy piano mixed with ambient.
Ray Cathode's Sex Model mixes fast industrial beats and some odd
effects. I like the background soundscape effects used. You also gotta love the name..
Cathode Ray Tube was an instrument used to discover certain particles, and they just
dropped the Tube and switched the name around.
The final track is by Aya, and it starts out as experimental techno
which after about a minute, switches to heavier faster industrial. It uses a little too
much track repeating for my tastes, but still is a fairly decent song. |
