"The World We Have Lost" by Dream
Into Dust's Derek Rush brings us is a spectacular release of electro-apocalyptic
orchestral folk music which combines a rich assortment of semi-ambient background noises,
[swirls, crashes, rumbling] with synth-phonic cinematics and Derek singing softly yet with
a great amount of emotion. In addition, changes of militant beats with the drums and bass
blended with strings [cello] and guitar bring out a "folk-edge" in most of the
tracks.
The synth work is excellent involving deep crashing drums, heavy bass,
helicopter samples, thunder and rain, broken glass, struggles between people [their sighs
and interactions] and dark melodic inserts. The mastering is very good and the
compositions in general are deeply expressive and imaginative. The overall effect of this
release brings out a dreamscape of doom and darkness yet it touches on a sad hint of hope
in a world all too confined in senseless chaos and ill-direction for mankind."
"The World We Have Lost" is a beautiful release that captures human drama
relative to the natural world around us, as sad and hopeless as it may be. |
