Gaitor Bait Ten
Collision Substance |
This self titled debut album is a meeting of three fresh young
producers from opposite sides of the Atlantic. The arse kicking beats come from Simon and
Paul of London dub hoppers Ocosi. The disturbingly chilling ambience was born from the NYC
studio of producer Kanal (Mark Filip). The results of this collaboration are a pure shock
to the system, a melding of harsh breakbeats, sub bass and isolationist textures which
will floor you upon first listen. Although sharing some vague stylistic ideas with artists
like Mick Harris, Gaitor Bait ten have struck out on their own to produce something
frightfully unique. The beats and bass come hard, especially on "Outro' one of the
albums few dancefloor friendly moments. Elsewhere, the collaborators lock horns to produce
experimental drones that run laps around the recent work of artists like Zoviet France
while throwing in breaks that will make your head spin like Linda Blair in the exorcist.
No sir, this is not your mothers Crystal Method style breakbeat, whether simple and
minimal or ragingly fierce, this album is sonic experimentalism for the next millenium. |
