Kismet once again releases a
powerful and moving piece of work here. Blended with highly skilled use of Eastern &
Western European instruments (zurla, tambura, keyboards, bass, drums, topon, samples) and
incredibly deep exotic vocals (Gorazd Capovski, background vocals by Ilijo Stojonovski,
spoken word by Steven Teref) Kismet brings to us a delightful release of traditional
Balkan-ethno, darkwave experimental, industrial and electronic genres.
Hailing from Macedonia, an area influenced by war torn Bosnia-Herzogovina, the music and
lyrics seem to reflect and take on a personality of the past conflict in cultures. The
overall production and sound of this release is of high quality; you can't expect anything
less from Kismet. The music is very professional, exotically rich and moving. Each track
has a unique sound including "Love Will Tear Us Apart" (Joy Division) which
blends neo-Eastern Euro-ethnic instruments with 80s upbeat rhythms.
Kismet is one of the finest bands in the scene for this type of music. "Wake Up
Gods", their 1998 release is just as delicious. They come highly recommended by Last
Sigh. Let us hope they come back to tour N. America soon. |
