Larvae. An incredibly good sound. Trancy, techno-ish,
ambient-esque, EBM, total electronica. The release was mixed and mastered by Larvae
and Blake Milton at The Laboratory, Yantix Texas and 7th Heaven Studios, Dallas
Texas, 2000. Larvae encourages support for Greenpeace, Amnesty International
and the ACLU [American Civil Liberties Union]. The gives thanks
and gratitude on the CD cover to: Iggy and Ziggy, Lou Reed, Yoko Ono, Moby, Eno, NIN,
EBTG, U2, Norman Cook, Connie and Raymond Marble, Gator, Jesse Ventura, and William S.
Burroughs. Influences also include Massive Attack, Gary Numan, Kraftwerk,
Everything But The Girl and Bowie.
Amassing Delinquents combines a number of sounds ranging from
jazzy to techno, trance to ambient. It's a "snappy" sound. Upbeat
yet kick back, and something that DJ's should definitely get for club and air play.
The production on this release is excellent. Perhaps one reason for its high quality
is due to the fact Larvae believes in "allowing unconnected neurons that course
through esressways in the cerebral cortex, to intersect, as the results can be very
interesting, and at times, disturbing." Larvae also recommends the listener to
"dance or perform body movements, or tap one's toes," to the music.
And rightfully so, it's pretty difficult to sit here while typing up this review.
The bass lines, percussion and deep beats are difficult to ignore, very
enticing. The sampling and synth effects are nothing short of chilling and spacious.
The music in general is "happy" and rather fun to listen to. There
are short bursts of drums, clinking bells and smashing effects, as well as trippy bass,
buzzing guitar [minimal] and phat rhythms.
Larvae has given us a delightful aural view into the world of
self-expression, self-identity and has gone beyond the boundaries of a genre pigeon-hole
with Amassing Delinquents. For those of you who want to hear something you
may have not yet been exposed to in the world of eclectic electronic music, I suggest you
order this release. Visit Larvae on line and pick up a copy soon. |
