Formerly an Electronic Body Music [EBM] band, LIN
releases a soulful blend of trip-hop beats and flowing melodies with their latest release
"La Folie" on Dune Records. Enlisting the help of an MC and a female with smooth
vocals, "La Folie" provides a solid beat-oriented sound with jazzy electronic
overtones.
The band presents a nice slow groove that is very easy to get lost in.
Low and deep textures form the basis for the harmonies and let the drum tracks stand out.
The vocals, as said above, are concentrated between an MC's rhymes and speech and a 4ad
style sweet female voice. The voice of June, the female vocalist, shines on top of the
electronics with it's smooth and silky qualities. The MC's (UBQT) voice seems to provide a
sense of dissonance against the music, complimenting the hip-hop element that is very
prevelant throughout the tunes
"La Folie" is a very solid release. Stand out tracks include
"Are You Feelin' This" and "Brothel Cholera Bugs". If the mood calls
for a nice, almost tribal somber groove, "La Folie" may be a wise choice.
