Lofi Scorpio is Mike Yeager (programming, sampling, keyboards, guitars
and vocals), Scott Dill (drums, percussion and loops) and Tim Houtkooper (keyboards,
treatments and voice). They hail from Kalamazoo, Michigan.
"Noir" is Lofi Scorpio's highly melodic version of a digital
hardcore. It's apparent from the first few seconds of the title track, that these guys are
not just knocking together noise, they are making music.
"Noir" and "Animation part 1" feature
trance-inducing rhythms and the otherworldly vocals of Michelle Graf. "Just A
Moment," "An English Tale" and other tracks on "Noir" are
remarkable to this genre not just for their inherent musicality, but because they have
actual lyrics. No indecipherable screeching or overprocessed rantings here, words can
actually be understood.
Some tracks on "Noir" seem a bit too obviously like the work
of certain pioneers of this sound-particularly "Burning Brightest Blue" and
"Salvo." However, Lofi Scorpio's instincts seem true and their sense of
composition is strong. To see photos of Lofi Scorpio
