So what's the beef? This release isn't as bad as some people make it out to be! Actually I've enjoyed hearing it. I'm not too familiar with the work of Ministry, but I'd say all in all the bands on this release have done a great job with it. It's as abrasive as you could ask, and has a few tracks that are a bit more quieter and dance oriented. From the "boom boom boom -- Sig Heil!" [enter crushing guitar here] rendition of "Land of Rape and Honey" of Electric Hellfire Club to the more industrial-techno dance-edge of En Esch's blends with "Work For Love", the release is pretty good. Attrition's track, "The Cannibal Song" is slow bass/ambient drone, spooky and sullen.
I'm a bit surprised to hear Jesse McClear of Heavy Water Factory on this release. His track is rather mild at first, melodic and has some great percussion/beats that flow with the sexy tribal rhythms then speeds up to that "Ministry Speedball" beat. Meg Lee Chin just kicks sassy arse no matter what she does! Driving beats and heavy bass bring out Meg's fix on Vox, Guitars and Programming on "Just One Fix". "Jesus Built My Hotrod" by Shining brings out more of the Ministry pace with crashing percussion, head banging guitar and beats while Terminal 46 uses deep bass and lead guitar, to continue the headbanging beats.
One of the most varied tracks on the release is by Resident Phase Shifter, "Thieves" which uses rather dream-like vocals and a slowly evolving melody until about half way through the track, then the Ministry basslines move in and a funky beat ensues. The Aliens on "She's Got a Cause" is also a bit funky in beat/backbeat, Dessau with "Revenge" is slow with a dark heavy bassline/drums, treated vocals yelling but cracks out the noise intermittently. Deist Requiem has the 'chugging' guitars and keyboard/programming for a hard driven remix of "Deity" while Sons of Midnight is also laden with lead guitar, metal vocals and more chugging rhythms. If you like Ministry, you might like this tribute...
