Once in a while we get some great demos at Last Sigh. Anders Karlsson
of The Pain Machinery is one of them. Based in Stockholm Sweden, Anders has put out a
release rich in beats, noise, sampling, effects and composition. This music isn't for the
light hearted! It has all the qualities of industrial noise: fast bpms [100-200+], crash
booms, metal slapping, torturous effects, looped vocal sampling ["Make it STOP!"
"I don't know anymore if I'm awake or dreaming... "], clinks, clanks, gurgles,
sonic squigglies, whirrs and bzzzps, rapid fire drum machine boom boom boom's, hydraulic
ppfffzzz's, great [rumbling] base lines and an occaisional dance beat. Melodies are rather
non-existent on this release, and most tracks take on a melody of their own with the noise
patterns that are layered on top if each other, which are quite heavy. Good music for
those of you with ADD... !
The entire demo is very strong. The tracks are well composed -- lots of
things going on, and never a dull moment. The overall sound is quite militant, aggressive,
and "There are going to be no reprisals!" There are a few excerpts with gentle
sounds, but those are few and far between. I think this release is "smashing"
work. If you are familiar with Skinny Puppy, Front 242, Ant-zen artists, and
industrial-noise in general, you probably will want to email Anders for a copy of this
release. I'd be surprised if he isn't signed to a label in the near future. Thanks to
Anders for his fine music!
