Suicide commando has been one of the more premier electro/industrial
bands in the scene over the years, it began with Johan Van Ray experimenting with
industrial music back in 1986, but didn't actually begin to perform live or release his
music on anything other than cassettes until 1993.
Over the years the band has assisted in defining the European
electro/industrial scene, by working with such bands as dive, :Wumpscut:, and VNV Nation,
as well as with American artist Velvet Acid Christ. Mindstrip is their 12th original
studio release, as well as their first release on Metropolis records.
The sound of this album is very much classic electro/industrial, with a
slight leaning towards the modern day EBM. Heavy beats, and some very good synth work make
it easy to see why this band is such a club favorite. The vocals are nothing to really be
excited about, as their typical for the genre, and the samples sound like the same ones
every other industrial band has used at one point in their careers.
Over all, not bad, nicely straddles the line between industrial and the
present EBM, while still remaining a pleasure to listen to. Great club album though, has
some nice strong beats and enough of a melodic backbone to make it worth dancing to.--Jed Hartgrove
