Crevice is
a collaboration of a group of people with instruments
ranging from violin to cello to theremin to turntables to rhodes piano. This
release is largely a live album compiled from a variety of venues and
recording areas.
This CD is drone oriented. The ambience is all improvised as the
large variety of instruments incorporated are all used together to create
a flowing, warm soundscape. Minimal in nature, the beauty is created by
pure improvisation. I've said this before, but I truly appreciate live
improvisation.
The drones continue on with mind numbing string work with very little
electronics. There's a good deal of organic experimentation through this
release and the ambience blends together nicely. I must say, though, the
drones and tonality do tend to be a bit bland after a while..some of it seems
to fall into a brown..or gray quality. This CD nicely compliments my other
albums of ambience, but it doesn't stand out so far as, say, Labradford,
while it stands on its own as enjoyable improvisational jazz-like ambience.
