I remember the day that they made techno the way "Matrix" did. I think the whole fad only lasted a day or so. House beats, arpeggio, piano, and more chemlab sort of vocals. "DMX" on the other hand is trying to give us “gothic” sort of atmosphere here. Some synthesized metal percussion (oxymoron) with a sample of someone saying "help" over and over and over and over again while a Yamaha synth preset is playing a key or two at a time in the background. About as scary as the X-Files.
The third track comes to us from "Synthetic Silicon Trance", a band that I assume first started out making porn music or were part of the local Christian electro folk scene in Newark, Delaware. Sounds like he could have played all of this song on one keyboard if it had an on board sequencer while the vocalist sings in a way that would only give Richard Marx something to smile about. There’s something very relaxing about this song, in a funny Yanni sort of way.
"Lucent Technologies", now THIS is pretty nice. One layer of Yamaha sounding synth pads like everyone has played in radio shack when they want to dome some trace for the store. Kind of boring but soothing in a “I’m bored, lets lay down” sort of way.
Uh oh, sounds like someone’s been downloading samples from the Internet. Some breakbeat that doesn’t actually break, another space pad sort of thing, some generic techno radio samples and an Indian chick saying something in Indian again and again. Band’s like "Arthur Loves Plastic" make MP3.com and the Fast Tracker II industries flourish. Somehow I’m smiling and bobbing my head.
Italians love noise. I am Italian, flay me with some audio torture and I’ll perform some grim favors. Static, metallic percussion, ear piercing tones, and distortion... it’s what’s for diner. "Cazzodio" has finally made me happy I’m listening to this tape.
Now, I am no fan of synth-pop, usually. But this is kind of nice. "Chew’s Eye Shop" has a sort of Depeche Mode/Controlled Bleeding/Severed Heads thing going on here. I’m impressed and I’m happy to be listening to a better side of this tape.
"Amitage 6", a good attempt at some really chill stuff. I was enjoying a simple trance loop until some silly beats popped in and made me think of the horrors engulfed in Black Lung style noise.
Wow, a Roland MC-505 with distortion. Why didn’t I think of that? "Delayed Shock Reaction" are really pioneers into the world of video game sounds and house beats. Unfortunately they are about eight years behind the ball and sign the list somewhere in the lover five thousand. Hey, If you really like to hear one Frankie Bones loop distorted for about ten minuets, go snag the latest and greatest from these techno geniuses in California.
