3. The Beat of Commotion
According to Elasmo, theirs
is the new brand of Rock & Roll. A three-piece Swedish outfit, they formed just a year
ago to create the missing link between electronica and traditional pop/rock music. They
are rooted in rock & pop, but the main element is the synth crafting and the
sweet vocals of their singer, Anna.
Such claims are very bold. If the music can actually back that up...
It does..to a point.
I guess the best way to describe their sound is an almost uplifting
Curve and less DAMN-PRODUCED Garbage. The music is, overall, very crafty. I'll have to
say, though, that the absolute standout is track 2, "Out of Time." I'm
absolutely in love - Anna's sweet, smooth vocals (hey, it's almost a love song, too!)
overlay a very laid-back groove with thick bass and beautiful pads. Guitar is present in
this demo, but it's a compliment to the synth music.
Actually, I wish I'd have more of a taste of Elasmo. Make no doubt
about it, they are definitely rock/pop. However, they take just the right amount of
elements from (ugh I hate this term) electronica and apply it. The other two tracks, while
good, do follow the rock/pop formula, however. It isn't light years ahead of other
attempts, but it is at least a step in the right direction!
