This is a collection of songs on B-sides and
demos by a polished guitarist/musician titled: Gooding, who hails from Wichita,
Kansas. The tracks on this release are many things, and not easily categorized into any
genres. The use of guitar is prevalent here, but so tastily worked and blended with
percussion, synth, live drums, bass, keys and loops, the final outcome is very intelligent
and creative, bringing the listener a full range of incredibly good sounds.
Sonic drifts with what sounds like a slide/steel guitar, superb
beats/percussion weave their way into a dreamy piece of work on "Steel." I'd
have to say this whole release is avant-garde in its composition. A few tracks are more of
an "easy listening" type of work -- lets have wine and italian food after a long
work week, kick back and listen to some relaxing yet fairly upbeat music. A few of the
tracks are also rather jazzy in nature, while others are a bit more at the tribal
beat/latin end of the rhythmic spectrum. Ambient textures are also used with infusions of
percussion and minimalist melody of piano and guitar on a number of the tracks.
Don't let the guitar on this release turn you away from hearing Gooding.
He appears to be passionately involved with his work as is witnessed with this release --
the sounds on "Collection 1" give evidence that Gooding is very much in tune and
in sync with his instruments, his composing, production and creativity. I'd rank Gooding
right up there with Robert Fripp and Hendrix in terms of his skill on guitar. Excellent
release. Thanks to S3 for sending this to us, and
to Gooding for creating it.
