Infesting and growling drones intermixed with chilling, repetitive loops and a sporadic usage of metallic objects creating eerie reverberated clangs aiding the already blue-faced atmosphere. Piercing, distorted vocals drown under the murky deathscapes at a low volume as grinding noises envelope the listener. Kenotaph's "Promise" is truly an exceptional release. Perhaps Kenotaph is what one hears moments before drowning except the CD format is much cleaner and supplies us with sixty-six minutes of fluidy dirges rather than a few minutes of dismal delight before the inevitable end. The only thing which I can honestly say I didn't completely like about this disc, is that there aren't too many surprises. In fact, outside of "Bullet Junkie" and "Promise" the rest of the tracks might as well be consolidated into one larger track due to their obvious similarities.
All in all, I believe "Promise" is my favourite track since it is a bit different, yet the same. It's more structured and slowly becomes quite "creepy." Do note that Kenotaph really isn't the type of band who are out to scare people. The cover art and the song titles really aren't too suggestive; but the music, on the other hand, has a very morose touch. Recommended.
