Labradford is a vitally important, incredibly beautiful band. This trio from Virginia consisting of Carter Brown, Bobby Donne, and Mark Nelson have established themselves at the helm of modern underground post-rock.
Continuing the tradition from their 4 previous releases, "E Luxo So" uses a
string section, massive tape loops, and mild sampling to compliment their
soundscapes of guitar and atmosphere.
Labradford is absolutely incredible. The beauty of this band absolutely transcends description. The listener is invited to fill in the gaps in music as the light guitar, bubbling organ and dreamlike piano fills the air for the listener to get lost in. The music is inherently minimal with melodic currents stretching across echo. This music is deep - it makes the listener ponder and think in a trancelike manner.
It is difficult to nail down the pure joy of Labradford's music. I really enjoy ambience, especially improv, and while composition runs rampant on this release, it is clear that part have been specifially improvised. This is, without a doubt, the most melodically beautiful releases I have ever heard. Nothing is obtrusive and the harmony is complimented by silence that is inviting. An incredible release like this deserves national recognition, as I hope Labradford receives more praise.
