Mmm, strange psychedelia. Even the title of this release from Mourning Cloak, "In Dreams You See", suggests an ethereal experience. Released back in 1996, this album showcases the efforts of Tim Rennor and Paul Chavez to create a slow, introspective cd of psychedelic rock. Throughout the album are very moody and haunting soundscapes. Much of it is nice, slow, almost acoustic punctuation that sets the tone for the textures layered atop this foundation. Said textures include organic sounds and feedback, and smooth, haunting vocals set atop all this. The mood and tone of the tracks differ and flow, ranging from a pure lull to a haunting atmosphere. Nice work from a duo I'd never heard before. This is a release for which you definitely have to be in the right mood.
